Understanding the moment of crossing.
An open-source research project exploring environmental perception and mobility for blind people.
RESEARCH / OPEN-SOURCE PROJECT
The problem being explored
A cane helps detect nearby obstacles. GPS helps navigate to a destination. Between the two, understanding the surroundings at a crossing remains a complex challenge. Cyclope explores this need.
A systems approach
This research connects perception, information processing and accessible feedback. The challenge is not simply detecting an object, but determining which information can be useful, understandable and usable in a real situation.
Status and limitations
The project was introduced in a publication dated 6 September 2026. This page describes research; it does not present a validated device for deciding that a crossing is safe.
